Courses Offered:

State Guard Registration (Guard Card):

Anyone working as security officers, bodyguards, executive protection agents, bouncers and/or personal protection agents, must have the California Bureau of Investigation Services (BSIS) Guard Card in their possession. Note: a peace officer working private security must have a Guard Card. An individual working without a guard card is out of compliance and may be fined or legal actions maybe taken against him/her. CCLM Incorporated offers the state required course to submit with the BSIS application:

What you need to know:

You must be at least 18 years of age

Picture ID is required for each class
A full criminal history background check must be cleared and approved by the FBI & Cal. Dept. of Justice

40 Hours of training must be completed – 3 phases:

8 Hours initially for application process and receipt of permit (Phase I)
16 Hours within 30 days of receiving permit (Phase II)
16 Hours within 6 months of employment (Phase III)

Assembly Bill 2880 now requires all guards to complete an 8 hour refresher course every year

Advisements:

When sending forms and fees to the B.S.I.S. the following guidelines are suggested

You may make payments with personal checks. This may delay your processing by several weeks
To expedite the process, make payments by Money Order or Cashier’s Check. This will aid in your paperwork being processed in a timely manner
Send all paperwork Certified Mail/Return Receipt requested
Maintain all copies of receipts for your paperwork. Once the Bureau has received the online application and criminal history clearances, guards that are cleared will appear on the Bureau's Web site. The Security Guard, Private Patrol Operator or Training Facility can verify the Bureau's approval by checking the Bureau's "Verify a License" at http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/lookup.htm. Once the Security Guard registration has been cleared and appears on the Bureau's web site, a screen-printout from the web site may be used as a temporary Security Guard registration, and the Guard can be placed on assignment. The actual Security Guard registration will be mailed to the applicant and should be received in 4-10 weeks.
Security Guard placed on assignment must have the following documents on his/her person.

(This phase must be completed within the first month after obtaining

Guard Card from B.S.I.S.)

Phase 3

16 Hour Course (2 Days) $125.00 CCLM Fee

Includes lectures, class materials and certificate of completion.

Annual Review Course

8 Hours (1 Day) $75.00 CCLM Fee

8:00am-5:00pm

Includes lecture, test, renewal form and certificate of completion.

(This course MUST be completed every year as part of the renewal of your Guard Card)

$50.00 state application fee – submit fee with application documents

The Bureau will accept the following:

• Submit your completed security guard application, a $50 registration fee and a Security Guard Live Scan form signed by the Live Scan operator. A $32 DOJ fingerprint processing fee and a $24 FBI fingerprint processing fee must be paid at the Live Scan site. Send your application package to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, P.O. Box 989002, West Sacramento, CA 95798-9002.
